Squinting in dim light, he made out her silhouette by the window.
“You’re back already.” Her voice sounded faraway.
Chakotay held out the bottle of cider. “Consider this a birthday gift.”
She laughed softly and moved toward him. “Thank you.”
Then, to his astonishment, she reached up to press lips to his cheek, her body brushing warm against his. “And thank you for saving us. Again.”
His breath caught, remembering her body pressed to his in the corridor hours before. And although she lingered now, he knew he’d have only memories to keep close in the long years ahead.
